IKN Authority signals support for Penajam development
The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority has signaled support for developing areas in North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan, as a buffer zone for Indonesia’s new capital.
“The IKN Authority has given a positive signal to support the development of the area as a buffer zone,” said Tohar, regional secretary of the North Penajam Paser District Government, on Tuesday, referring to the proposed partner regions.
“These areas include the Buluminung Industrial Estate, Benuo Taka Port, and Babulu sub-district,” he added.
The district government has formally proposed the Benuo Taka Port, the Buluminung Industrial Estate, and Babulu sub-district as partner regions to the IKN Authority.
Tohar said the three areas have strong potential to support the future development of the new capital.
He explained that the Buluminung Industrial Estate and Benuo Taka Port, both located in Buluminung Village, Penajam District, would play a key role in supporting logistics distribution for the IKN.
Meanwhile, Babulu sub-district is expected to contribute to food supply, as one of East Kalimantan’s main rice-producing areas.
In addition to serving as logistics routes, Benuo Taka Port and the Buluminung Industrial Estate are also projected to support industrial activities linked to the new capital.
Tohar noted that the proposal aligns with the issuance of Regulation of the Head of the IKN Authority Number 2 of 2026 on the designation of partner regions for the Nusantara Capital City.
