Incredible moment Sean Lock tears Russell Brand to shreds years before rape conviction
Sean Lock was a vocal critic of Russell Brand and once voiced his fears that his daughters might bring someone like him home. The late comedian, who died in 2021, spoke about his dislike of Brand back in 2014. More than a decade later, the former actor and podcaster has since been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. Lock, who was appearing on 8 Out of 10 Cats at the time, criticised Brand for 'backpedalling' on his political views, before explaining the real reason for his 'hatred'.
He started out saying, 'Don't vote, it's stupid and pointless to vote, don't vote,' and now he's come out, Russell Brand, and said, 'No, what I'm saying is, actually, who am I supposed to vote for?' Lock explained.
"So if you reduce that to what he's actually saying, it's what everybody says at every bus stop or newsagent: 'Huh, politicians, what are they like? How did that lot get in?'"
Lock added: "The main problem now is that people get the politicians they deserve, because they don't take any interest in politics.
"And [Brand] saying to people who are disaffected already, and aren't engaged with the political process, 'Don't vote', is the most moronic, self-serving, pathetic bit of attention-seeking w***."
"Probably the reason I hate him so much is that I'm a dad," the comedian said. "And I've got this fear that one day my daughters will bring something like that home... and he'll come in and go, 'Oh, oh, such pleasure to be in your charming abode.'"
12 years after his comments, Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault after standing trial. Delivering the verdict on Thursday (5 October), Mr Justice Bennathan told the Get Him to the Greek actor: "You've been convicted of a number of offences, including rape. The consequence of that is inevitably a significant custodial term. My current view is that I therefore have to remand you into custody."
Moments before members of the jury revealed their verdict, Brand had been seen looking at his wife, Laura Gallacher, outside the dock, and saying, "Laura, I love you."
